British Infantry Equipments 1908-2000
The dead weight of the weapons, ammunition and equipment carried by the infantrymen of today is little different from that carried by foot soldiers at the beginning of the 20th century. Even in these days of mechanization, armies must sooner or later abandon their vehicles and fight on foot. Mike Chappell details the ongoing struggle to balance the infantryman's comfort with the necessities of self sufficiency on the battlefield, and demonstrates that the 'perfect set' of personal equipment remains as illusive as ever.
